Chris Cantell annouces The historical tree

Everyone read or at least heard about the Diary of Anne Frank, a book that holds the memory of a Jewish teenager from the World War II. In the book it is often mentioned a chestnut tree that used to comfort her while she was hiding from the Nazis. The 150-year-old chestnut is due to be cut down on November 21, because it is too diseased to be saved, according to the statement of the city officials on Tuesday. During the 25 months Anne was forced to stay indoors, in a canal-side warehouse, and the only things she could see and make her happy were the chestnut tree, the blue sky, the seagulls and other birds that glided on the wind. She stayed in obscurity for 25 months before the Nazis eventually caught her in August 1944. The tree, however, suffers from fungus and moths that have caused more than half its trunk to rot and endangers the "secret annex" atop the canal-side warehouse and represents a threat to people's safety. It has indeed a historical significance and emotional connotations, but in this context has to be cut down for which the city council released a license in March. It is integrated in the Anne Frank Museum, where the tiny apartment has been preserved and the Netherlands' Tree Institute is trying to save it. They received a postpone in October in order to investigate ways to heal it, but the city of Amsterdam can no longer wait because only 28 percent of the root is healthy and they cannot risk the 27-ton tree to fall over. They will replace it in the museum with a sapling from the original and it will forever be remembered by those that read the diary and those that visit the museum. It's a pity to be cut, but it would be worst for others.

The world's first national park, Yellowstone National Park is located in the U.S. state of Wyoming, but extendes into Montana and Idaho too. Therefore the bacteria that usually thrieves during the spring stirs a lot of concerns. Thermus aquaticus produces an enzyme useful in diagnosing hereditary and infectious diseases. Still researchers have studied it closer and paid more attention to the smaller organisms, viruses that keep those bacteria populations. Montana State University and the Idaho National Laboratory is doing a study on this issue and until now the main discovery was that viruses appear to migrate around Yellowstone on steam droplets. Frank Roberto, a microbiologist at the Idaho National Laboratory who sequenced and analyzed the DNA of Yellowstone viruses, stated that the viruses leave the host in order to reproduce and then it is when they enter in a hostile environment. Researchers have concluded that once they leave the host the viruses can survive to travel a very long distance before finding new microbial hosts and transfer genetic information that could affect the lives of the bacteria. In two years they located viruses near Norris Geyser Basin, Mud Volcano and a third between Midway Geyser Basin and Old Faithful. These viruses spread much like influenza does it through sneeze, only they use the steam. The impact it may have on people it is yet unknown, the mentioned study has the goal of finding both causes of the bacteria and effects. It will be published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences as soon as possible. The problem it is urgent and researchers hope to get over with it as fast as they can. Wolves erased from endangered species list

It seems that there is an end of restoration provided to help wolf population to expand in Northern Rockies, as it was announced on Thursday by federal officials. The recovery efforts were launched in 1974 in Northern Rockies as wolves were published in the endangered species list. It was assumed that more than 1,500 wolves are now wandering throughout the areas of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. This has brought about an enormous upheaval for the species that was about the extinction in the U.S. at the beginning of the 20th century. This is a result of marvelous works provided by the Endangered Species Act. Its interior deputy secretary Lynn Scarlett expressed that "the wolf's recovery in the Northern Rocky Mountains is a conservation success story." While this is seen as an amazing success by all supporters, in fact, there are some people who do not feel popular with it. This has mainly to do with ranchers who are naturally afraid of wolves inveighing their livestock. In the case of disposal of wolves from the list, they will be killed by hundreds of hunters who wish to constrict their population as much as possible. As a matter of course, the environmental groups have already started to prepare the lawsuit over the delisting, claiming it is too early to exclude this species from the federal protection. The wolves have once been nearly undone when it was a part of government eradication programme in 1930 to wipe of wolves invading the farms. The poisoning was even used. Led Zeppelin on the stage again

All profits from this show will go to the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, supporting scholarships to universities in Turkey, the United Kindgom and the U.S. Although this was the only reunion of Led Zeppelin, they reunited briefly in 1985 for Live Aid and again in 1988 for a 40th anniversary concert for Atlantic Records. When they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, they also played a short set with some other musicians.

Monday in New York started with sharply rose oil futures, and the streak of inconsistency continued. Weaker dollar and premonition, that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates took buyers through into the market. While the dollar is falling in U.S., the oil futures rose and many analyst have blamed the weakening dollar. Last month, oil's run up to nearly $100 a barrel, which meant, that it was more attractive to foreign investors. Interest rate cuts tend to weaken the dollar even more, exasperating the effect. "I think everyone's anticipating a quarter-point cut right now," said James Cordier, president of Liberty Trading Group, in Tampa, Fla. Although the anticipation helped crude to regain some ground, after futures nearly fell $2 on Friday, Light crude rose from $1.20 to $89.48 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. At the pump, gas prices fell 2 cents during the weekend to an average of $3.003 a gallon, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The prices are almost 11 cents lower than in November, when oil hit $100 a barrel. While oil prices has been mostly down, trading has been erratic. January futures fell $1.95 on Friday after rising $2.74 on Thursday. "We're covering the same ground and not getting anywhere," said Steve Bellino, senior vice president of energy at MF Global LLC. Other Nymex petroleum futures rose Monday. Heating oil for January rose 2.57 cents to $2.5304 a gallon, while January gasoline rose 3 cents to $2.299 a gallon. January natural gas futures fell 8.1 cets to $7.074 per 1.000 cubic feet on the Nymex. January Brent crude rose $1.01 to $89.65 a barrel on the ICE futures exchange in London.

Universal Music's deal with imeem

Universal Music Group has joined the other tree major record labels which have already signed a licensing deal with social networking Web site operator imeem inc. This is a great thing which lets all users to upload and stream music and music videos for free. It was quite a necessary step forward because nowadays people don't buy CD's; they just download the songs or videos which they want. Why pay for it? They do it illegally. These are the facts. Everybody knows that this is happening. Recording companies do as well. This causes that the revenues of these companies are getting down and so they have to find a new source of money. So imeem will carry full-length music and videos by artists of that four major record labels and record companies will share of online advertising revenues. One thing that is necessary to say something about is competition. Imeem site claims to have more than 19 million active users. Quite good you may say, but don't forget about the other major sites like YouTube or MySpace. But anyway I understand that. We live in hard times and if you don't remove the competition, they will remove you. On the other hand, it is necessary to cooperate, because only two can achieve more than one.

Oprah supports Barack Obama

This weekend at the University of South Carolina's football stadium in Columbia Oprah Winfrey told about 29,000 people that "we need Barack Obama". If you are a politician and your campaign is supported by the most powerful woman in this world you are on a half way to achieve your aim. When Oprah says that people should do something they just do it. When she says that something what you do is very bad than it's just bad. People love Oprah. So when she says that Americans should support Barack Obama you don't have to be a fortuneteller to know that they will. Even if some people say that Obama is not black enough or Hillary Clinton has some "dirt" on him. The numbers do not lie. And right now they are more favorable for Obama. Oprah said she has voted for as many Democrats as she has Republicans over the years. This time she said it was very personal. So from now it probably will not be about whose campaign is better and who wants the best for America, but who will be supported by Oprah Winfrey. I just hope that Oprah knows what she is doing. I'm sure she knows how powerful she is and that her opinion is some kind of a "law".

On a way to come up with a safer car transportation?

General Motors Corporation has declared that we are not far from being able to use cars while doing almost nothing more than sitting in it. The technology is not a big deal, since most of it is already available and they think that the rest can be put together in following years. But the question is whether that is a solution that people and governments will support or rather reject. It can be nice to imagine that we can just get in to the car, make the destination is clear and then take a rest and happily and safely arrive to that destination. But on the other hand, will we be able to put enough trust into the car and actually into the technology which is operating it? Or will some of us be able to give up driving generally? Because driving a car can be also fun and relax for some. But General Motors has obviously its arguments why it will surely be advantageous for the whole society. These driverless cars should for example prevent people from dying on the roads, because majority of car accidents are caused by drivers and so if the car has no driver, majority of people should be safe according to what GM says. Later on, with improving this technology, they say it should also eliminate traffic jams, because driverless cars will be set to save every possible space on the road, so they will stand close to each other and fill up spaces which are not but could be used. General Motors wants to test these cars by 2015 so let's see what their results will be.

Why mammoths died out

Mammoths lived from about 4.8 million years ago to 4,000 years ago and until now, scientists did not agree on the reason why they died out. There are few options that are being considered. One of them is over-hunting. But that probably was not the real reason for extinction of these big animals, resembling our nowadays elephants. The reason why it is not likely to be over-hunting that killed them all is that they were not the only species dying in that time period. There were also other animals disappearing. But the problem is that there is no evidence of anything that could have caused this to be happening. When for example dinosaurs died out, the reason was large meteorite that caused that we cannot see them running around today. But there is no evidence of anything like that in the time when mammoths disappeared along with other creatures. There were some findings, but still, this question has not been solved yet. It was just recently, in May 2007, that a baby mammoth was found in western Siberia. It is a 6 month old female and her death is dating back about 37 000 years. It was brought to Japan for further tests, so possibly, they will be able to solve this issue of the death of these large and old animals and maybe also other discoveries that might be deduced from testing and observation of this infrequent and valuable finding

Clinton fighting for voters by talking about Oboma's imperfections

The upcoming presidential election in United States is drawing nearer and that brings along the rising pressure on the candidates. Hillary Clinton has started to concentrate more on her biggest opponent in her fight for voters. Her strategy seems to be based on showing people all the deficiencies that she is able to bring up against Senator Barack Oboma. At the moment he possibly have around two times more people willing to vote for him then she does. But political strategists are emphasizing that it is not of a big help for her to concentrate on what everything is negative about her opponent, because that will not change mind of his voters in such a short time period before election. Even worse for her can be that it can have the opposite effect and harm her instead. But Senator Hillary Clinton has obviously different opinion. Instead of being rather careful in this issue, she is even adding fuel to the fire by proclaiming Barack Oboma to be "a talker" and advices to voters to consider voting rather "a doer, not a talker." Therefore this newest strategy of hers is to show people that action and results are more important than plain talking about it. Which, in the end, is very true, but she should first maybe consider expanding negative ad about her candidates and focus on attracting new voters by showing them more positive aspects that she is capable of. Sometimes talking about other's mistakes creates even more enemies to oneself then he meant to create to the person he was talking about.

Sharp's 108-inch wide LCD TV

The fans of giant and in the same time thick LCD televisions have one more thing to look forward this year. The Sharp corp. electronic maker from Japan will bring the brand new 108-inch wide LCD TV. Albino alligators were stolen from University in Brazil

When the zookeeper of the Brazilian University zoo came as usual in the Wednesday morning to fed albino alligators, he noticed instead of eight in their terrarium was only one. The Federal University of Mato Grosso suppose they were stolen by smugglers, because of their rarity and of course price which is about $9,700 apiece. The albino alligators live only in captivity because in the nature they have no chance to survive due to their color of skin. It makes them unable to hide and mask which is necessary for to be a predator, not a booty. "The theft was carried out sometimes between Monday when the alligators were last fed and Wednesday and there were no signs of break in," Itamar Assumpcao, zoo director told The Associated Press. Nowadays, illegal trading with animals is a serious problem not only in Brazil. There are several organizations fighting against this phenomena. Renctas, Brazil non-governmental organization claims the illegal animal trading worth $10 billion to $20 billion around the globe per year. About 15 percent of it come to Brazil. For smugglers it's really lucrative business. Especially when the animals are so rare as for instance this albino alligators. Police think they could be stollen for sell them abroad or to another smugglers in Brazil. At the beginning University get male and female of alligator which were not albino but they color was much lighter than alligator's skin used to be. After ten years of inbreeding, in the 2005 the real albino alligators were born. Seven of it were stolen last week. The smugglers left only one, and another two are at The Sao Paulo Aquarium.
